York police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was knocked unconscious in the city centre.

York man guilty of stealing £4,900 from 87-year-old

A 22-year-old York man has pleaded guilty to stealing £4,900 from an 87-year-old woman.

Activity day at Hull Road Park, York

York police and partners are holding a community fun and crime prevention day at Hull Road Park in York on Thursday 8 August 2013 between 12pm and 4pm.

As well as the many fun activities which local people are invited to take part in, officers will be providing free cycle security marking and general crime prevention advice.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will host safety demonstrations and the RSPCA will be on hand to provide animal health advice.

Attractions at the Hull Road Park fun day will include:
• Sam’s Safari Zoo
• A tug of war contest
• Biscuit and button decorating
• A quiz with prizes
• Skate park
• Fire and Rescue safety demonstrations
• RSPCA animal advice
• Chance for young people to sign up to the Lifestyle project*
• Free cycle security marking
• General crime prevention from your local Safer Neighbourhood Team
• Meet your local family services and estates officers
PC Neil Slater who is Beat Manager for the Hull Road and Tang Hall area, and who organised the event, said: “As well as enforcement and cracking down on crime in the area, it’s good to engage with our communities. It means we can forge good relationships with young and older people as well as passing on our crime prevention advice and services.
“Everyone is welcome and we urge anyone living in the area to come along and join in the activities, discuss any issues they have and get some useful crime prevention advice, we look forward to seeing you.”
