Fun day in Holgate on Saturday

A family fun day organised by a group of youngsters taking part in the Lifestyle competition will take place this weekend.

Community Spirit a team from the Community Spirit Boxing Club in Acomb have organised the day as part of their entry into this year’s competition.

The group are hoping to raise funds for the boxing club which is based at York Railway Institute Community Sports Club on New Lane.
There will be plenty going on at the fun day, which will be held between 10am and 4pm, on Saturday 31 August 2013, including archery, face painting, a bouncy castle, sumo suits, a raffle and a cake stall.

PC Suzanne Asquith, of York police, said: “Considering this is the first time we have run Lifestyle, the team have done very well to get this fun day organised.

“I would urge people to come along and give them all the support they can.”

The Lifestyle competition is open to kids aged between 10 and 16, who get together in teams of up to five people to work on a project which shows they care about their local community.

This may involve the environment, helping neighbours, the disabled or elderly, the young, promoting healthy eating and sporting activities, safety campaigns, clearing a park, creating a community vegetable garden and anything else which can help make a difference to local people.
