Dementia Care specialist, Dementia Care Matters, is to help provide high quality care to those suffering from the condition in York.

Dementia Care Matters will advise the council on the operating model for its two new specialist dementia care Elderly Person’s Homes at Lowfield and Burnholme, as well as supporting and training existing care home staff to ensure they can deliver specialist care in the new homes.

Dr David Sheard, Chief Executive, Dementia Care Matters, said: “Steering culture change in dementia care homes really matters. Good dementia care is all about providing good emotional care.

“Dementia Care Matters focus will be on the leadership of care homes, improving staff’s quality of interactions, and providing a domestic household scale to live in.

This way a real difference can be made to the quality of life for people experiencing a dementia. Dementia Care Matters is looking forward to our collaboration with City of York Council as it works to modernise its care homes. ”

Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Health and Wellbeing and Adult Social Services, City of York Council, said: “Dementia Care Matters has a reputation for helping care home teams to deliver person-centred dementia care.
