The local Lib Dem councillors embraced Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ weekend, with support from Dringhouses Scouts and local residents.

The St Leonards Hospice Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday 26 November from 1pm to 4pm.
There will be entertainment from Prima Vox Choir, a BBQ, festive refreshments, crafts, gifts, tombolas, prizes and lots of fun. Admission will be a £1.00 donation for adults. It is hoped that Santa will have time in his busy schedule to fly in with his sleigh!
The first ever Woodthorpe Family Fun Day, held on Saturday 13th August, was a huge success. The event was organised by the Woodthorpe York Community Group, with funds raised in support of St Leonards Hospice.
There was live entertainment and a range of stalls run by local community groups, plus plenty of activities for children.
Stephen and Ann gathered views from young people on what they like best about local play areas, and what improvements they would like to see made. The comments received will support our bid for funds from the council to improve the play areas at Woodthorpe and on Nelsons Lane.
The Friends of Hob Moor held a successful ‘Butterfly Walk’ on Sunday 7 August.
Despite a stiff breeze, there were lots of butterflies for the large group of walkers to catch and learn about (the butterflies were all safely released!)
You can keep up to date with activities on the Moor at https://fohm.org.uk/
Stephen and Ashley helped to run a non-political ‘meet your local councillor’ stall at the Tesco Askham Bar community event on Sunday 24th July.
They were joined by councillors from neighbouring Westfield (Sheena Jackson and Andrew Waller) and Rural West (Chris Steward) wards. And Lord Mayor Cllr Dave Taylor (Green, Fishergate ward) also dropped in.
Main topics of discussion were the draft Local Plan currently out for consultation, and street-level services.
As part of Edible York’s ‘Open Gardens’ event, Stephen joined Woodthorpe Community Beds volunteers planting more herbs in the beds outside the shops on Saturday 16th July. The new herbs planted are available for all residents to pick.
