Renovation works planned for Moor Lane Youth Centre

The council has issued an invitation to tender for renovation works at the Moor Lane Youth Centre on Wains Road in Dringhouses.

The tender, issued on the ‘YorTender’ website, refers to the building being divided for use by two user groups. More details of the tender are available HERE

Investment in this facility is welcomed, and it is hoped that there will be more opportunities for greater community use, in particular as a base for open-access activities for young people.

A weekly ‘Community Tea Room’ is being established at the Moor Lane Youth Centre on Wains Road, with support from Ward Committee funding.

Local “free” WiFi access to be expanded – Moor Lane youth club to benefit

York is to continue its digital journey following an announcement that a number of Community Hubs will receive free WiFi in spring 2015.

The WiFi installation is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of York’s status as one of 22 SuperConnected Cities and is the latest step in City of York Council’s Digital City campaign.

The free WiFi will be available to residents and visitors while they are in public space. The provision will allow events and seminars to take place and will also help residents communicate with relatives and friends digitally.

WiFi will be installed in the following Community Hubs:

  • 68 Youth Centre
  • Bell Farm Community Centre
  • Burton Stone Community Centre
  • Castlegate 29
  • Clarence Street 30 (Sycamore House)

  • Melbourne Centre
  • Moor Lane Youth Centre
  • Oaken Grove Community Centre

Tang Hall community centre funding probe – Moor Lane Youth Club threatened

Residents in the Tang Hall area are asking why a £10,000 grant made last year for the improvement of the Tang Hall Community Centre has not been spent?

The money was part of the very much reduced budget now made available to Ward Committees.

It was to have been spent on remodelling the Centre, making it potentially easier to generate additional income.

The Centre is one of 4 in the City which are under threat of closure following the decision of the Council to stop its annual support grants.

Tang Hall CC, was at the centre of a controversy earlier in the year, when all the key posts on the management committee were taken over by local Labour Councillors.

We also understand that the Council is considering closing down the Moor Lane youth centre in Dringhouses.

The well established and popular centre serves the whole of the west of York and is one of very few purpose designed facilities aimed at young people in the City’s suburbs.
