Road closures – Thanet Road and St Helen’s Road

  • Thanet Road, York will be closed between its junctions with Chaloner’s Road and Eason View, York (ii) Railway View, York between its junction with Thanet Road and a point 10metres north east of the said junction from 0900hrs on 18th November until 2400hrs on 19th November 2015 for carriageway resurfacing works.  Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Eason View is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road when the closure is put into effect. During the works period vehicle movements between Easson View and St Helen’s Road will be controlled by two-way traffic signals. It is envisaged that the closure will be put in place in two phases, with on day for each phase during the works period. An alternative route for diverted traffic will be signed during the works period.
  • St Helen’s Road, York will be closed between the respective western property boundaries of No.’s 5 and 12 St Helen’s Road from 0001hrs on 20th November until 2400hrs on 26th November 2015 for carriageway resurfacing works. It is envisaged that the restrictions will only be put into effect between 0900hrs and 1600hrs on Friday 20th November 2015. An alternative route for diverted traffic will be available:from the eastern closure point via St Helen’s Road, Tadcaster Road, Moor Lane, Chaloner’s Road, Thanet Road and St Helen’s Road.

St Helen’s Road closed on Friday 20th November for road work – buses rerouted

Service 4 will divert via Chaloner’s Rd, Moor Lane, and Tadcaster Road in both directions.

Buses not running via St Helen’s Road

The number 4 bus service is continuing to avoid St Helen’s Road where there are ongoing works to the gas main.

The First bus web site is still quoting the reason for the diversion of it’s number 4 service as the burst water main, although this was fixed some time ago.

The number 4 is currently routing via Chaloners Road/Moor Lane/Tadcaster Road missing out the Eason View/Thanet Road loop as well as St Helen’s Road.

Northern Gas have confirmed that they expect to complete work on their main on Friday 29th May 2015.

The Council has finally issued a statement saying that St Helen’s Road will reopen to traffic at 5:00pm (1700 hours)

They have not yet explained the delay in reopening the important link, given that work was completed some hours ago.

Yorkshire Water repair workers have left St Helen’s Road but street still closed.

Yorkshire Water contractors and their plant have now left St Helen’s Road. 

However the road is still officially closed. There has been no recent update report or explanation.

Some motorists have started using the road again and are weaving through the chicanes.

St Helen’s Road – update on closure

Workers seem to be making good progress in restoring the carriageway surface on St Helen’s Road raising hopes that the street may reopen later today or tomorrow at the latest.

So far Yorkshire Water have issued no statement indicating how that burst main occurred, although it is not the first time that the road has been dug up this year.

St Helen’s Road closure to continue during Thursday

Dringhouses School will reopen tomorrow (Thursday) but with pedestrian access only.

Yorkshire Water apologises for “low water pressure” in area.

St Helens Road expected to be closed throughout Thursday.

Yorkshire Water criticised for “poor communications” over cause of burst main and likely time for restoration of service. “Should make better use of social media” say local Councillors.

It looks like Tadcaster Road will be very congested at teatime.

St Helen’s Road is still closed although now relatively free of surface water following the burst main earlier today. Workers are still digging their way down to the source of the problem. There is access for pedestrians and cyclists (who will need to dismount next to the roadworks)

It is race day so several hundred vehicles will be leaving the Knavesmire at tea time.

Those who can are advised to avoid driving down Tadcaster Road.

The number 4 bus route diversion remains in place.
