Appeal following knife point robbery in Kingsway West

Detectives in York are appealing for information after a pizza delivery man was robbed at knife point in the early hours of Saturday 12 May 2012.

As well as witnesses, officers would like to trace the box and thermal delivery bag in which the pizza was carried.

At around 1.50am on Saturday morning, a Domino’s delivery man attempted to deliver a pizza to a property on Kingsway West, near to the junction with Thanet Road.

The 27-year-old delivery man was approached by a man wearing a covering around the lower half of his face who threatened him with a knife and ordered him to hand over cash.

The robber then escaped on foot with an amount of cash, running along Thanet Road and up Gale Lane, after which he went out of view.

The delivery man was physically unhurt but very shocked by the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Kingsway West and Thannet Road area from 12.15am or anyone who saw the suspect running from the scene to contact them.

They also want to trace the pizza box and thermal delivery bag, as well as a large black handled knife, possibly a bread knife, which may have been discarded in the area.

Officers believe the items may have been dumped in someone’s garden or bin in the area and are asking anyone who finds them to contact York CID immediately.

Detective Sergeant Ash Khan of York CID, said: “This was a very frightening incident against an innocent person going about his work. We are particularly keen to trace the pizza box and bag. Police officers have been carrying out searches in the area today as well as house-to-house enquiries. But members of the public can also help us by letting us know if they find any discarded pizza boxes or bags on their property.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID.

Or, you can pass information anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 888.
