TV dance duo on Knavesmire for Olympic Flame party – 19th June

Dance sensations Twist & Pulse will help welcome the Olympic Torch to York Racecourse, it has been announced today, after touring the city on 19 June.

One the most talented dance acts around, the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ finalists are among the acts chosen by Samsung to invite the nation to take part in the Olympic Games experience.

The street dance duo will be welcomed on stage by former Blue Peter presenter and MC for the night Andy Akinwolere. He’ll also be introducing Katy B, the sensational singer-songwriter and Mercury Prize nominee, to York for the spectacular evening celebration.

Besides Katy B who has released a single with Mark Ronson to mark the Olympic celebrations, the party on York’s Knavesmire will also feature a session with local African drumming groups Umbu and Calabash and also the sensational gospel sounds of the University of York’s choir Zamar.

The event is free and unticketed. The celebration will get set from 11am with the Sporting Giants Games at Bustardthorpe, from 2pm at the Racecourse there will be sports demonstrations and interactive stands offering tasters of activities including basketball, cheer-leading, table tennis and equestrian sports. From 5pm, the staged spectaculars and interactive presentations will kick off. Katy B said: “London 2012 is such a huge moment for the UK and I can’t wait to help spread the excitement in York as the Olympic Torch makes its historic journey around the country. I’m especially looking forward to performing Anywhere in the World, the song for the Coca-Cola Olympic Games campaign that I’ve recorded with Mark Ronson.”
