Swift justice for misery makers
A man and a woman who were banned from the Sandcroft Road area of York because of their antisocial behaviour have been sentenced for breaching an order preventing them from entering part of the Dringhouses area.
Adam Standing and Amy Evans formerly of 36 Sandcroft Road, Dringhouses, York, were made the subject of Antisocial Behaviour Injunctions obtained by City of York Council which prevented them from entering part of Dringhouses, which included Chaloners Road and also prevented them from harassing or intimidating local residents. In addition, City of York Council, with the support of North Yorkshire Police obtained a three-month Premises Closure Order on 1 June 2012, as a result of York Magistrates Court finding that persistent and significant anti-social behaviour had occurred at 36 Sandcroft Road.
Towards the end of June, North Yorkshire Police received information that both had been seen in the Chaloners Road area by local residents.
The pair were arrested on 2 July and a trial took place at York County Court on Thursday 5 July 2012. Adam Standing admitted breaching the order by being present on Chaloners Road on 29 June 2012 and was given a 14-day prison sentence suspended for one year.
Amy Evans failed to attend the hearing and the court found on the evidence heard that she too had breached the terms of the order by also being present on Chaloners Road on 29 June 2012. She was sentenced in her absence to 28 days in prison. Police officers have since detained her and she is now serving her sentence. The injunction orders in respect of both Amy Evans and Adam Standing remain in force until 31 January 2014.
Sergeant Ed Noble of York West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Evans and Standing made local people’s lives a misery with their horrendous behaviour. The closure order on 36 Sandcroft Road saw a marked reduction in antisocial behaviour in the area and shows what can be done when the police, council and local residents all work together.
“I would like to assure our communities that we will not tolerate this unacceptable behaviour which impacts on residents’ quality of life. We will use all powers available to us to tackle such issues and I encourage residents to work with us by continuing to report instances of antisocial behaviour in the area.”
