It’s a blooming exciting forecast for York on Wednesday 11 July when the Yorkshire in Bloom Judges arrive to assess the city as part of the RHS Britain in Bloom competition.

Yorkshire in Bloom Judges Chris Beard and David Elcock will tour the city to decide whether York meets the Gold standard in terms of floral displays, green spaces, the look of our local neighbourhoods and street environment as well as levels of community involvement in ongoing plans.

Their visit will cover a wide variety of sites across the city in addition to the historic city centre to look at long-term. Their tour will take in a special display of sedum (commonly known as stone crop) marking York 800 on Lendal Banks, and will head to venues including Northminster Business Park, Wheatland’s Community Woodland, Lord Deramore’s Primary School, Low Moor Community Kids’ Allotment, Rowntree Park, Poppleton Railway Nursery, Yorkshire Museum Gardens, York Minster’s Dean’s Garden, the Treasurer’s House and York Racecourse to name but a few.

The judges will see for themselves the fruits of the labours of work taking place throughout the city including the inspired work of local community groups such as schools, local residents and city partners Edible York.
