New bus information point opens tomorrow at the station

City of York Council, York Pullman and East Coast Mainline are working in partnership to open a new bus and information point in York Railway Station.

The new information desk is located in the station’s Travel Centre and will be officially opened on Tuesday 14 August.

Commuters and visitors will get access to up to date and accurate answers to their queries about local bus services as well as general visitor information.

The customer-facing counter will be operated by York Pullman and has been developed with thanks to £30,000 funding from the Better Bus Area Fund – a grant provided by the Government.

East Coast Stations and Property Director Tim Hedley-Jones said: “We are delighted to have been able to work with City of York Council and York Pullman to introduce this new facility within our travel centre at the station.

“It provides a convenient source of up-to-date information on bus services and tourism attractions in and around York, and we’re sure it’ll prove popular with many of the thousands of visitors who arrive in the city by train every year.”

The information point will be staffed seven-days a week and will also provide a base from which to manage rail replacement services and a base for all bus operators to manage the race-day shuttle bus service.

The information point will also provide a feedback service facilitating complaints and compliments to be put to bus operators and the Council.

The desk will be staffed during daytime working hours, but opening hours will be extended to cater for special events throughout the year, such as race days and St Nicholas Fayre.
