Take part in the Poppleton Bar archaeological dig!

City of York Council is offering residents an opportunity to take part in an archaeological dig on the site of York’s newest Park & Ride.

Part of the Planning Approval for the construction of the proposed Park & Ride facility off the A59, was that the land should be assessed in detail to understand its archaeological significance.

So, from Monday 24 September experienced and novice community archaeologists will be able to work alongside professionals on the site of Poppleton Bar adjacent to the A59 and Northfields Lane..

Residents will be able to work on every phase of the archaeological project, which is one of the first of its kind in the UK, from geophysics, field-walking, excavation, analysis and publication.

People wanting to take part in the Poppleton Bar Dig are invited to a public meeting in Poppleton Centre, Main Street, Upper Poppleton, York YO26 6JT on Wednesday 12 September at 7pm to find out more and sign-up.
