First have confirmed that the number 4 and 5 services are to be combined from 7th October. The result will be a 7 minute frequency.

On the face of it the service should increase capacity on the number 4 route through Dringhouses and may reduce the danger of people being left at bus stops at busy times. How popular the change will prove to be in the Acomb area remains to be seen.

In future the number 4 will not penetrate the new University campus but will turn at Heslington Hall (as it used to) which may also improve reliability.

Also affected are the number 12, which is now confirmed as routing to Monks Cross, and the 13 which will link Tadcaster Road to Haxby.

YORK Service changes from 7th October
Sunday 07 October 2012

The following services will be changing in York from 7th October. New timetables are available on http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/york/journey_planning/timetables/forthcoming.php. Maps for routes that have changed can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Service 4: University – York – Acomb
This service will now operate between University of York (Heslington Hall) and Foxwood Lane. It will operate every 7-8 minutes, Monday – Saturday daytime during University term time, every 15 minutes Sunday daytime and every 30 minutes in the evening. On Monday-Saturday daytime during University holidays, there will continue to be a bus every 7-8 between Foxwood Lane & York – Clifford Street, with every other journey extending to the University. Services terminating in York will run via Skeldergate Bridge and terminate in Clifford Street.

At the University, it will now operate a one-way loop from the University Library via the Science Park, Heslington Hall and as current route to York. Heslington East campus will no longer be served.
During Monday-Saturday daytime, alternate journeys will extend from Foxwood Lane where they will change to service 5, to maintain a direct service between Acomb & Tadcaster Road. These journeys will show ‘Acomb’ on the destination screen. Journeys terminating at Foxwood Lane will run via Thanet Road, Gale Lane, Cornlands Road, Askham Lane, Foxwood Lane & back to Thanet Road. These journeys will show ‘Foxwood Lane’ on the destination screen.

Through ticketing onto service 5 will be available.

Service 5: Acomb – York – Strensall
In Acomb, this service will now start at Foxwood Lane and operate via Askam Lane, Cornlands Road, Gale Lane, Tudor Road, Green Lane, Front Street, York Road, The Green, Danebury Drive, Boroughbridge Road and as current route to York & Strensall. Beckfield Lane will be served by new service 14 & Ostman Road will no longer be served by First.
Through ticketing onto service 4 will be available.

Service 6: Clifton Moor – York – Osbaldwick
This service has a new timetable, Monday-Friday morning peak-time to improve timekeeping.

Service 7: Designer Outlet Park & Ride
On Sunday mornings, the first 4 departures will now start from Clifford Street instead of Rougier Street.

Service 9: Monks Cross Park & Ride
On Sundays, this service is extended from the Park & Ride site to Monks Cross Shopping Centre – it will operate every 12 minutes.

Service 10: Stamford Bridge – York – Poppleton
This service has a new timetable to improve timekeeping. In conjunction with new service 14, there will now be 4 buses an hour, Monday-Saturday daytime between Hull Road, York and Boroughbridge Road.

Service 11: Ashley Park – York – Bishopthorpe
This service has a new timetable to improve timekeeping. The South Bank loop (via Knavesmire Road and Campleshon Road) will no longer be served during Monday – Saturday daytime.

Service 12: Haxby – York – Acomb (Foxwood Lane)
This service will have a new route. Between Acomb (Foxwood Lane) and York the route is unchanged, it will then operate from York via the current route of service 13 to Monks Cross Shopping Centre. It will operate every 30 minutes, Monday-Saturday daytime.

The section of route between York & Haxby is now served by revised service 13.

Services 13/13A: Copmanthorpe – York – Monks Cross
Service 13 will have a new route. Between Copmanthorpe and York the route is unchanged, it will then operate from York via the current route of service 12 to Haxby. It will operate hourly, Monday-Saturday daytime.

The section of route between York & Monks Cross Shopping Centre is now served by revised service 12.

Service 13A is withdrawn; Woodlands Grove and Straylands Grove will no longer be served by First.

NEW Service 14: York Sports Village – York – Acomb Green Lane
This is a new service. It will operate from York Sports Village to Hull Road then via the route of service 10 to Boroughbridge Road and then via Beckfield Lane, Wetherby Road, The Green, Front Street to Acomb Green Lane.

It will operate every 30 minutes, Monday-Saturday daytime.

At Acomb Green Lane service 14 will change number to service 16 operating to York via Hamilton Drive – through ticketing will be available.

Service 16: York – Acomb
On Monday-Saturday daytime, service 16 will operate every 30 mins, with one bus an hour operating direct via Hamilton Drive and one bus an hour serving Holly Bank Road. At Acomb Green Lane, service 16 will change to service 14 operating to York & York Sports Village “through ticketing will be available.

The Sunday service is withdrawn.
