Young story writers rewarded for intergenerational project

Children who have taken part in an intergenerational York Stories 2012 project will next week (Monday 1 October) receive their ‘Storysaurus’ certificates.

York Stories 2012 is a major city-wide community project which as part of York 800, aims to encourage people to create and share stories that are personal and unique to the city, and the Storysaurus mascot is a feature of children.

As part of York Stories 2012, pupils from St Aelred’s RC Primary School have spent time with residents from Woolnough House learning about their experiences of and in York, through a series of workshops spread across three weeks.

The children prepared questions to ask residents before starting to put pen to paper, and then worked closely with them to develop the final story. At the final session last May the children were recorded reading out the story they had written about ‘their’ resident. The stories are being shared with the public on www.yorkstories2012.com.

The certificates will be presented on Monday 1 October, which is also Older People’s day, linking in with the work done between the children and residents of Woolnough House.
