Archaeology in York 2012 conference (10 November)

City of York Council is holding a day-long conference on Saturday 10 November at The University of St John, to look at the huge range of archaeological fieldwork and research that has been carried out in York in 2012.

The conference is aimed at full-time archaeologists, members of community archaeology groups and history societies, students and members of the public who are interested in the heritage of this special city.
Highlights will include lectures including:

• Investigations at York engineers’ triangle
• Archaeological Investigations at Heslington East: a summary and key implications
• An assessment of historic buildings on the York Central site, the chance to hear about the exciting work that is being done on York’s railway heritage.

John Oxley, City Archaeologist, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to come and learn about recent work in the city. We hope people will make new contacts that will help them with their own research or interests. And of course, we hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable day!”

The conference runs from 10am-4:30pm on Saturday 10 November at Temple Hall, University of St John, Lord Mayor’s Walk.
