Competition creates a buzz in York primary schools

Mr Hexagon, Beesafe and A2Bee were just some of the names school children across York submitted as part of City of York Council’s competition to name the i-Travel mascot.

As part of the on going promotion of the i-Travel York programme, funded through a Local Sustainable Transport Fund government grant, primary school children were invited to name the mascot who had previously only been known as the i-Travel York bee.

Out of the many entries received, Yorbee was chosen by both Grace Robinson, aged 7 and in year 2 and Isobel Wright, aged 9 and in year 4 at Clifton With Rawcliffe Primary School.

In her competition entry Isobel wrote that she chose the name because: “He is a bee from York and he is your bee because he helps you.”

Next week, Yorbee will be present Isobel and Grace with a prize for submitting the winning name.
