York police are appealing for the public’s help to trace Robert John Steele.

Steele, age 28, is wanted after failing to appear at court for his trial in connection with the importation of illegal drugs.

Steele, whose last known address was in the Tang Hall area of York, failed to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on 3 April 2013 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He is also believed to have connections in the Leeds area.

Steele is wanted by the Home Office after failing to appear at court on nine charges relating to illegal drugs. These include five charges for the illegal importation of Cocaine, MDMA, MMC and Ketamine, and four for supplying Class A, B and C drugs.

Detective Inspector Dave Kirby of York Police, said: “It’s vital that Steele is brought before the courts to face trial. It’s possible that he has returned to the York or Leeds area after failing to appear at court. He should be assured that York and North Yorkshire are not safe havens for suspects and that we will find him sooner or later. He should therefore do the right thing and hand himself in.

“Steele is not believed to pose a danger to members of the public, however, anyone who sees him should not approach him, but contact the police.”
