A handy leaflet packed with money saving tips and suggestions has been published.

The leaflet, called ‘12 small changes for a festive Christmas’, suggests practical ways of managing money and budgeting in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.

It also lists contact details for a number of different organisations such as the National Debtline and The Money Advice Service, who can give help to residents who may need advice on financial matters.

Leaflets are now available to pick up from every library and Explore centre and from the Citizens Advice Bureau at West Offices. You can also download a copy from here

The leaflets are the latest in a programme of financial inclusion projects which recently included wealth checks and money management tips during Housing Week.

George Vickers, Chief Executive of York CAB, said: “Many of our clients are finding it difficult to manage on low incomes throughout the year, and so the extra pressures on spending at Christmas can cause people to fall into debt. Enquiries to York CAB for help with the debt issues increase significantly following the Christmas period. It is really important to plan and budget for the festivities to avoid getting in to difficulties in the new-year. The ‘12 small changes for a festive Christmas’ will help people to do this.”

Paul Collier, Marketing Manager from Aviva, said: “At Aviva we’re committed to supporting local initiatives such as this to help our community. Christmas can be a difficult time financially and the tips within this leaflet are designed to help people to manage their money more effectively so they can enjoy the festivities and hopefully have a more prosperous new year.”
