Two choirs look to hit the right note

Music will be the common language at a city centre concert which will strike the right note on Friday 25 April.

Choirs from York and its twin city Münster will sing from the same hymn sheet at St Helen’s Church during a musical evening.

Chor and More was founded in 1997 in Münster and every Friday evening they gather at the Albachten music centre to sing pop songs, numbers from the musicals, folk songs and sacred music.

City of York Council choir, Cansing! has been in harmony for three years, but has a long list of performances to their credit, including singing on Radio York and in York Minster.

Songs will be sung in both German and English and will include JS Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”.

The concert takes place in St Helen’s Church, Stonegate, by kind permission of the churchwardens, at 7.30pm. Tickets are free, and may be obtained by contacting Eileen.thompson@york.gov.uk or 01904 552219. There will be a retiring collection in aid of the choir and St Helen’s Church.
