More consultation on Local Plan

Just when you thought that the Council had finally decided on a Local Plan that would take York into the 2030’s, the authority has launched another public consultation.

The last consultation  took place in the spring.

The Council says that”homes  in the city will receive a special edition of the Our City publication over the next two weeks, which explains the plan and how to have your say.

The full version of the Local Plan pre-publication draft – and comment forms which can be sent freepost –  is available to view online at www.york.gov.uk/localplan,  in all the city’s libraries and the council’s reception at west offices.

Residents are also invited to one of eight special consultation events, while additional information will also be available at all ward committees which meet during the consultation period.

You can also get involved via twitter @CityofYork or facebook.com/cityofyork, using the hashtag #YorkLocalPlan

There wil be a public consultation event on Monday 16 October at Acomb Explore Library, Acomb (3-7.30pm)

Additional information will also be provided at the ward committee meeting (Dringhouses & Woodthorpe joint with Westfield) – Tuesday 26 September  York & District Indoor Bowls Club, 302 Thanet Road, Dringhouses, York, YO24 2NW 6.30-8pm)

The published plans still involve development of the Lowfields playing field, so it is important that residents record their objections to any proposals that they disagree with

There is expect to be an “examination in public” by an independent inspector early next year.

Improvements at “left luggage” office at York Railway Station

It’s around 4 years since the left luggage facility within York station was relocated.

As we reported in 2013,  passengers face a challenging walk with heavy luggage to the new facility which is located near the Europcar Office on Queen Street.

We are pleased to report that the new luggage service operator (Autohorn Fleet Services) has gradually been improving facilities.

Details can be found on their  website  http://leftluggageyork.co.uk/ while they also have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LeftLuggageYork/

Autohorn say that they have

  • Moved the office slightly so it’s at a better angle for customers coming in and out of the office.
  • Now have the facility to take card payments.
  • Coned off our office from public walkways and driveways to ensure customers are kept safe (as the road can be very busy at certain times of the year)
  • Sign posting has become more apparent for travellers from the York Station. Adding onto the addition of our huge ‘Left Luggage’ flat, we’ve got smaller signs pointing towards our direction.
  • Multi-lingual signs to help aid foreign travellers within the city.
  • Been working with Make It York we’re also placed in the various tourist maps to showing clearer directions as to where we are.

We do, however, hope that Autohorn and Virgin (who operate York Station) will continue to work to find a way of providing a direct route across the car park to the luggage office.

Ashbourne Way/Acomb Wood Close footpaths to be resurfaced

The City of York Council will start work week commencing 18th September 2017 to reconstruct some of the footways shown on the plan below.  This scheme is programmed to take 2 weeks, weather permitting.

The work consists of excavating the current tarmac surfacing, laying two new layers of tarmac and replacing road kerbs within vehicle crossings.

Residents are being offered a discount on any new driveway requirements that they may wish to commission while plant is in the area.
