Police investigate Acomb assault

York police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted near Askham Lane.

It occurred at around 7pm on Tuesday 13 May 2014, on The Green where it meets Askham Lane, Acomb, involving a car driver and a pedestrian.

As a result of the incident the pedestrian, a 62-year-old York man, suffered a cut to his head as well as cuts and bruising to one of his hands.

A 42-year-old man from York who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

PC Chris Storey, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you witnessed the incident taking place, I urge you to contact the police straight away as you may have information which could progress my investigation.”

York police issue urgent appeal to find missing man

York police have issued an urgent appeal to help trace a York man who has gone missing from his home in the Heworth area.

41-year-old Mandeep Ahluwalia was last seen by his mother in the city on the afternoon of Friday 16 May 2014 and has not been seen or heard from since.

He also left leaving his car, bank cards and mobile phone behind.

Disabled busker racially abused in York city centre

York police are appealing for witnesses after a disabled man was racially abused in the city centre.

The victim, an eastern European man aged in his mid to late 20’s who has no legs, was sitting on his skateboard busking on Coney Street when he was approached by a man at around 12pm on Saturday 26 April 2014.

Poster campaign alerts drivers to cycle safety

A poster and billboard campaign has begun across North Yorkshire urging motorists to drive with the safety of pedal and motor cyclists in mind.

The county council, along with North Yorkshire Police, have launched a new ‘Think! Bike campaign with posters and hoardings displayed in urban areas and along popular cycling and motorbike routes. The first billboard went up in Harrogate this week.

With more cyclists expected to take to the county’s roads in the run-up to the Tour de France, the county council’s road safety team in partnership with the police are running a cyclist and biker awareness campaign aimed at motorists in an attempt to reduce the number of casualties. The purpose is to get motorists to drive with consideration for other road users, especially before turning or changing direction.

Police seek assault witnesses in York

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was assaulted in York.

The victim, aged 14, was walking along Monkton Road with a friend at around 9.15pm on Monday 7 April 2014, when she was approached by a man who head butted her on the side of her face.

The man then walked off in the direction of Malton Road. He is described as white, aged in his mid-20s, with stubbly facial hair. He was wearing a light-coloured tracksuit top with the hood up and light-coloured jogging bottoms.

Police urge residents to guard against sneak-in burglaries

Student burglaries

Officers are warning that one-in-four burglaries are committed via insecure doors and windows and it is important to be security conscious at this time of year.

Thieves will not hesitate if they see an easy way into your property, therefore it is important to keep windows and doors locked even if you are at home or in the garden.

It is also important to review the security of your sheds and outbuildings, as expensive gardening tools and equipment are a target for criminals during the summer months.

Detective Sergeant Matt Dodson, of York CID, said: “By being security conscious and taking a few simple crime prevention steps you can quickly put thieves off targeting your home.
