What’s on in Dringhouses: A Victorian Christmas Concert at Dringhouses Library

This historical-music recreation will recreate a concert given on 16 December 1868 in what was then Dringhouses School and Reading Room. With Victorian music, carols, and readings, experience the library as it was 148 years ago, and bring in the festive season with Christmas spirit!
Music historian Jane Troughton and friends will be providing the music, research done by volunteer Andrew Jenner.
Mince pie and cup of tea included in the ticket cost.

Join the Friends of Dringhouses Library for an evening all about Dringhouses during the wars.
From Zeppelin raids to rationing, local men lost and those who returned, Dringhouses has been involved in both World Wars.
Read extracts from the school log book during the war years, hear from the local history group, look at original material from the Explore Archives, listen to some wartime classics, and join us for some (definitely not-rationed!) wartime recipe food.

Join us for “Arthur Walkers Great War” a recreation of life as a soldier in WWI.
t is of little comfort to Mrs Walker to receive a letter describing her son as ‘a credit to his mother,’ when it also reports him missing.’
Actor Chris Cade will play real Yorkshire veteran Arthur Walker in this interactive tale of Arthur’s journey.
Join him as Arthur is recruited, fights in the trenches and is taken prisoner!
