York promotes new energy cost saving scheme

York residents have another chance to see if they can save money on their gas and electricity bills by joining The Big Community Energy Switch in partnership with City of York Council and iChoosr.

The scheme, which started in December 2013, has so far seen 744 residents join to save on average £169 on their bills. Even more residents will be able to save money as the latest switch has now opened for registrations until 12 October 2015.

Jacqui Warren, Sustainability Officer, said: “Joining the Big Community Energy Switch is a great way for residents to reduce the cost of their energy bills by a significant amount. As the scheme works on collective switching power I hope even more residents will join those who have already registered to help create even bigger savings for more people.”

How the big community switch works

1.   We hold a number of big community switches across the year. Our next big switch will open for registrations from 4 August 2015. Anyone who pays a household energy bill can register for free, including pre payment meter customers and those without gas. Registration is easy – you just need a recent fuel bill or annual statement.

2.   Our switching partner iChoosr will hold ‘auction days’ throughout the year and invite energy companies to offer their best prices.

3.   The cheapest tariff wins! You will receive an email with details of the new tariff secured by the scheme. It will tell you how much money you could potentially save.

4.   You have until a set date to decide to accept the offer or not. There is no obligation to accept and no fees or charges. If you choose not to take up the offer, you can always register again in future schemes.
