City of York Council is calling on York’s bus passengers to tell bus bosses their views on local services at a ‘bus surgery’ event on Parliament Street on Thursday 8 October, from 10am – 4pm.
The ‘bus surgery’ event will give residents a chance to speak with representatives from York’s bus providers including First York, Arriva and Transdev. The event will be held on a bus provided by First York giving people who don’t normally use busses a chance to look at one.
The Bus Surgeries are part of a range of measures being taken forward by York’s Better Bus Area Programme – an initiative by the council and the city’s bus operators – to improve bus services in the city.
Work undertaken through the Better Bus Area has included refurbishment of many of the city’s bus stops and shelters, real-time information screens at many locations in the city, provision of York’s Bus Wardens and improved management of traffic to benefit bus services.
Since the Better Bus Area began in 2012:
- Passenger satisfaction with services has improved from 82 percent of passengers either ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ in 2012 to 93 percent in 2014
- Service punctuality has improved from 68 percent of non-frequent services on time (in 2009/10) to 86 percent in 2014/15
- The number of passenger journeys in York has increased by 11 percent to 15.6 million in 2014/15
iTravel York travel advisors will also be on hand throughout the day giving travel advice, including information on buses, walking, cycling and car sharing.
