Pavement progress!

We are pleased to report that the pavement problems that Stephen reported on Aldersyde and Tadcaster Road have been actioned.

The badly cracked paving stones at the corner of Aldersyde and Aldersyde Court have been replaced, and the area is now much safer for pedestrians – see below.

It is also pleasing to note that the badly potholed pavement on Tadcaster Road at the junction with Pulleyn Drive has been repaired.

Speed camera on Tadcaster Road

North Yorkshire Police deployed a speed camera on Tadcaster Road on Saturday. The camera is connected to a speed monitoring system installed on a motorcycle – see picture below.

Also on Saturday there was a collision between a car travelling north along Tadcaster Road and a Royal Mail van that was turning onto Tadcaster Road from The Horseshoe. There were no indications that speed was a factor. Many residents have told us how concerned they are about getting onto Tadcaster Road at times when the traffic volumes are particularly heavy.

One junction has been improved following calls from local Lib Dem councillor Ashley Mason for action – the markings at the junction of Pulleyn Drive and Tadcaster Road have been re-painted.

Travellers move off Moor Lane site

The traveller caravans that have been occupying council land on Moor Lane vacated the site on Wednesday evening. The job now begins to clean up the site and make it secure – at council taxpayers’ expense.

Some black bags left by the gate have been collected, but when Stephen walked round the site on Thursday evening it didn’t take long to find black bags and other items that had been dumped in bushes.

There is also a large amount of green waste that the travellers have left behind.

The immediate priority is for the site to be made secure, and Stephen has asked for this to be done urgently.

Stephen has reported more dumping in the layby off Moor Lane.

If any residents see dumping happening here, please let Stephen, Ann or Ashley know the date and time and any other information, such as vehicle registration number.

Chance to brush up your decorating skills

The Bell Group, who are carrying out painting to Council owned homes in the Foxwood area, have teamed up with Foxwood Residents Association to give people in the area the chance to hone their decorating skills.

A taster day is being organised for Wednesday 19 August from 10am until 2pm for anyone interested in learning new skills or discussing a career in painting and decorating.  As part of the day, a room at Foxwood Community Centre will be given a makeover and those attending will have the opportunity to win a prize of £50 worth of decorating vouchers from Johnstones.

Caravans remain despite notice to leave

Travellers who are occupying council-owned land on Moor Lane have failed to leave the site despite being issued with a ‘Direction to Leave’ notice last week. The notice expired on 10th August.

Legal avenues are now being pursued, beginning with the matter being brought before Magistrates later this week.

We will post further updates as and when they are available.
