An application to re-designate a property in Wains Road as a ‘House in Multiple Occupation’ has been withdrawn.

The application made for 146 Wains Road, and a similar application made for 8 Leven Road, attracted a number of comments on the council’s online Planning portal. The application for Leven Road remains live.

The property at 146 Wains Road now has a ‘To Let’ sign in the front garden.

25% of planning appeals successful in York

Figures, to be discussed by a Council planning committee tomorrow, suggest that residents have a 25% chance of successfully appealing against a refusal of planning permission in the City.

The York Councils performance – in getting decisions right first  time – is now better than the national average.

That has not always been the case in the past (see 2012 performance below).

Vote goes against converting Tadcaster Road offices back into a house

Proposals to con292 Tadcaster Road photovert 292 Tadcaster Road back into a dwelling house were refused at a planning committee meeting today.

The vote was 6-4 with opponents objecting to an extension which formed part of the planning application

There had been no objections to the planning application

The building is currently used as offices by a telecoms company.

Among those voting against the conversion were Labour Councillors who claim that there is no alternative but to build homes on Green Belt land!

292 Tadcaster Road photoA Council committee will decide whether 292 Tadcaster Road will be converted from a telecoms HQ back into its original residential use.

Normally conversions of this sort would be welcomed but Council officials say that they are concerned about the  impact that the changes will have on the Conservation area.

The planning application seeks permission for the change of use of 292 Tadcaster Road and includes a replacement two storey rear extension, an additional two storey side extension (following the removal of the existing fire escape and single storey extension), a garden room to the rear, a detached annex to the rear and replacement dormer windows to the front.

There have been no objections to the proposal

It is the appearance of the side extension that has led officers to recommend that the application be refused.
