Graffiti battle on Tadcaster Road

We have been able to arrange for two street cabinets on Tadcaster Road to be repainted after they were daubed with graffiti – a BT cabinet opposite the junction with Nelsons Lane and a Northern Power Networks box at the junction with Middlethorpe Grove.

Sadly our local graffiti artist with the yellow pen has been at it again, this time attacking the traffic box opposite the junction with Middlethorpe Drive. We have asked the council to arrange for it to be repainted.

Residents’ views sought on parking at The Horseshoe

Councillors Ashley Mason and Stephen Fenton canvassed opinion among residents of The Horseshoe over the weekend about how to tackle thoughtless and dangerous parking,

Access to the street is being hindered by non-residents parking up in The Horseshoe, off Tadcaster Road, and then going into town or perhaps to York College. The photograph below demonstrates the issues residents face.

Stephen and Ashley asked residents for their views on potential options such as extending the double yellow lines, or installing single yellow lines to prevent parking on the street on weekdays during working hours. This latter approach has been used on nearby Middlethorpe Drive.

Stephen commented “We got a lot of helpful feedback from the residents whom we spoke with. We are mindful of the risk of solving one problem but in doing so creating new problems, such as pushing commuter parking further into the street. That’s why we’re seeking residents’ views on this issue.”

Racecourse praised for prompt action on hedge problems

We are grateful to York Raceourse for taking prompt action in response to our request for a hedge encroaching onto the footpath on Tadcaster Road to be cut back.

Before

Before

A number of residents had written to us and responded to the recent FOCUS newsletter to tell us about the hedge, which is near to the entrance to the stables complex.

We took this up with the racecourse, and we are pleased to report that the hedge has been cut back to allow pedestrians unhindered use of the footpath (see below).

Tadcaster Road bid to change offices into house

292 Tadcaster Road photoA Council committee will decide whether 292 Tadcaster Road will be converted from a telecoms HQ back into its original residential use.

Normally conversions of this sort would be welcomed but Council officials say that they are concerned about the  impact that the changes will have on the Conservation area.

The building overlooks the Racecourse.

292 Tadcaster Road

The planning application seeks permission for the change of use of 292 Tadcaster Road and includes a replacement two storey rear extension, an additional two storey side extension (following the removal of the existing fire escape and single storey extension), a garden room to the rear, a detached annex to the rear and replacement dormer windows to the front.

There have been no objections to the proposal

It is the appearance of the side extension that has led officers to recommend that the application be refused.

The area Planning Committee will make its decision on 9th July
